Heidelberg SM / CD 102 Ink Ductor Roller
The Heidelberg SM / CD 102 Ink Ductor Roller is a precision-recovered exchange roller that meters ink from the ink fountain roller into the roller train on the Heidelberg SM 102 and CD 102 offset printing presses. Operating on an intermittent, timed contact cycle, the ink ductor picks up a controlled film of ink from the fountain roller on each stroke and transfers it to the adjacent oscillating distribution rollers — making it the critical first link in the SM 102 / CD 102 ink chain. The condition and surface quality of the ink ductor directly determines how consistently ink is metered into the roller train on every impression.
A worn or glazed ink ductor roller causes erratic ink metering on the SM 102 or CD 102, resulting in ink density fluctuations, ghosting, streaking, and difficulty maintaining stable ink levels during the press run. Because the ductor operates through thousands of intermittent contact cycles per hour, its rubber covering wears and hardens faster than most other rollers in the ink train. Replacing a worn ductor with a precision-recovered exchange unit restores accurate ink pickup and transfer, stabilizes ink density, and reduces makeready time spent chasing ink balance problems.
Three versions are available depending on press series — Black (New Style), Brown, and Tube. The SM / CD 102 uses one ink ductor roller per printing unit. Please specify your machine serial number or Heidelberg part number when ordering to ensure you receive the correct version for your press configuration.
